Badawi by ROAR

Surge for Water

Description

Badawi is a multifunctional modular piece of furniture. It is a bench, a seat, a coffee table, a standing table, a storage compartment and a piece of many that has the power to bring people together the bedouin way – a majlis.

Badawi in translation means “Desert dweller”. It is intended as a celebration of the bedouin UAE history through its colours, shape and purpose.

1. Colours – inspired by the traditional Talli weaving – a skill typically passed down from mother to daughter for generations. We took the traditional colours a Talli typically consists of and we crafted a colour palette that celebrated the heritage in a contemporary gradient way.

2. Shape – Badawi’s curved shape is an embodiment of the bedouin’s canvas – the desert. Its dunes, the shapes carved in by the wind and the winding journey bedouins undertook to travel across.

3. Purpose – Being a multifunctional majlis reinterpretation, the bedouin hospitality is very much the heart of Badawi.

Badawi is crafted from recycled plastic and reused fabric which we found in our own sample library – with this we intend on bringing awareness to the amount of discarded material that occurs in our industry on a daily basis, ending up in the landfills as well as oceans and thus we hope to raise awareness for future conscious usage.
