Two Nights at Anchors Away: an English seaside escape for up to nine
Swap the desert for the English Channel. Anchors Away is a newly renovated Edwardian house in Rustington, West Sussex, a short stroll from the beach and a long way from your inbox.
There are four bedrooms (two with king beds), two bathrooms, a proper garden and a hot tub, which guests rate almost as highly as the sea. Bring the whole family, or the friends you actually like. It sleeps nine, parks off-street, and is rated 5 stars by its guests, so you're not the first to fall for it.
What's on the doorstep
• The beach: a few minutes' walk. Shingle, big skies, very good fish and chips.
• Littlehampton (5 mins): sandy beaches, dunes, a riverside walk and the famously wavy East Beach Café.
• Arundel (10 mins): a fairy-tale castle, a Gothic cathedral and more antique shops than strictly necessary.
• The South Downs (10 mins): walks with views of rolling hills on one side and sea on the other.
• Goodwood (25 mins): horse racing, the Festival of Speed and the Revival, depending on your timing and your tolerance for tweed.
• London: about two hours away, if you must.
Weather not guaranteed. Hot tub works either way.
