In a city defined by extraordinary diversity, there is an invisible thread that connects us all.

This idea sits at the heart of Ubuntu, an African philosophy centered on our shared humanity and the belief that “I am because we are.”

Ubuntu reminds us that our identity is not formed in isolation. We are shaped by the people around us, strengthened by our communities and connected through our collective experiences.

The upper body is a sculpted armour made from recycled composite materials. Its bold, geometric form represents strength, resilience and permanence.

Inspired by the protective spirit of the UAE, the armour symbolises a nation that provide safety, stability and a sense of belonging to all who call it home, both Emiratis and expatriates alike. Much like the architecture of Dubai, which stands as a testament to ambition, progress and unity, the sculptural form embodies the strength of a nation that shelters, protects and empowers its diverse community.

Emerging from the rigid architectural structure, reclaimed textiles, recycled fibres and individual strands begin to connect, overlap and intertwine. Each strand is unique in its colour, texture and origin, reflecting the cultural diversity of the UAE, where people from different backgrounds, cultures and traditions come together as one community.

Much like the people who call the UAE home, every strand carries its own identity and story, yet all are united by a common thread , a shared aspiration for opportunity, security and a better future.

The garment becomes a metaphor for Dubai itself: a city built by many hands, cultures, stories and ambitions. Different threads. Different origins. Different journeys.
