CHARITY CHALLENGE - KYRGYZSTAN
9th to 18th July 2021
Now that the world is starting to open-up and traveling is beginning again, I am so ready to get the hiking boots out and dust off my big Yellow Bag!
Having not been out of the UAE for over 18 months, I am so excited to be joining Gulf for Good for another amazing challenge and to raise funds for an incredible charity project in Kyrgyzstan for under-privileged children.
I know it’s a huge ask with the last 18 months we have all had, but if you can spare anything to help the children in Kyrgyzstan it would be greatly appreciated.
The challenge itself promises to be a wild and fantastic trekking journey through Kyrgyzstan’s mountains, lakes, forests and traditional villages of Kyrgyzstan. The challenge will take us through some of the most remote areas of the country where we experience traditional life, explore high altitude lakes in the mountains, and pass by incredible ice glaciers.
Charity Project:
The remote Ananyevo municipality in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan urgently needs a local meeting point to connect community members and boost learning and social activities. Our goal is to raise USD50,000 to build this centre on a plot of land that has been provided by the local government, and running costs to be managed by the municipality.
By building such a facility in this rural area, we will be improving the lives of 165 vulnerable families, 180 children and 12,000 inhabitants of the surrounding villages. The community centre is not just a physical structure, but also provides a space where parents receive training courses to increase their employability and parental skills and help with daily challenges. It will also serve as a venue where children play, learn and do their homework, as well as a hub for cultural and sports events.
Your contribution will give the children and families of Ananyevo connection to the world, and a better, brighter future!
The charity partner SOS Children's Villages Kyrgyzstan was founded in 1996 as a Member Association of the Federation of SOS Children's Villages International and has been working to provide a loving home for every child in need. Their mission is to ensure children to grow up in a caring and nurturing family environment, so they will be able to realise their potential and shape their lives and communities.
They work closely with local communities to keep families together and strengthen parental as well as economic skills, so children can grow up in a stable and protected environment. They also provide short-term care or family-based care solutions for cases where this is not possible.
