RUN FOR GOOD - DUBAI MARATHON

By choosing to support Gulf for Good in the Dubai Marathon 2023, you will be raising funds for one of our charity projects, Shelter Associates in India.

Almost 600 million people have no access to sanitation in India which has a detrimental impact on the health, education, financial security and safety of people living in informal communities. Shelter Associates helps to transform the lives of the urban poor through:

Sanitation: facilitating access to sanitation in informal settlements by:

1. setting up robust spatial data platforms to pinpoint families who lack access to basic sanitation

2. facilitating construction of individual toilets

3. conducting workshops to increase awareness within the community of environmental issues

4. providing forums for sanitation issues to be discussed

5. establishing solid waste collection systems

Social Housing: The housing projects implemented are:

1. based on accurate data which has been spatially organised

2. data generated from a city-wide approach which considers housing as an integral part of the city along with areas of employment, healthcare, education, and convenience

3. implementation of partnerships with beneficiary communities

Research & Poverty Mapping: In India there is a lack of adequate data to guide urban planning, which leads to ineffective planning policies. Shelter Associates create and maintain poverty maps of peri-urban areas which guide their needs-based interventions. They carry out research to facilitate better understanding of the needs of the urban poor, and design of effective solutions to meet those needs.

FUNDRAISING:

This IACAD approved license (No. 000588799) is held in association with local not-for-profit Gulf for Good, whose purpose is to change the lives of underprivileged children around the world.

The breakdown of how donations are distributed are as follows:

- 75% of funds raised go to Shelter Associates, India

- 15% of funds raised go to Gulf for Good (not-for-profit in the UAE and registered UK charity) for their sustainability

- 10% of funds raised go to International Humanitarian City for their emergency response work
