My name is Maya Lotfy, and I’m a 10th grader at the American School of Dubai.

I have always believed that we have a duty to use whatever resources we have to find ways to give back to those that are less fortunate. When I first heard about Room to Read, I was instantly hooked and decided that I wanted to play a role in support of their incredible cause.

The Room to Read foundation was founded in 2000, with a mission to nurture foundational learning skills in children. They collaborate with local communities and organizations around the Middle East and other countries to improve literacy and education for the young generation of readers. They envision a world free from illiteracy, where all children have room to read, learn and grow and to create lasting change.

My goal is to raise 100,000 AED which will help teach over 500 children to read.
