On Sunday, 26 January 2025, I will be running a half marathon in aid of Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) (MSF).
I am not a runner. Growing up, I was small, slow and hated it (two of those things are still true). So much so that, aged 9, I wrote a poem, based on a true story called "I came last in a race" (it was such a masterpiece that it was published). So why am I doing this? Simply put, because I can. Gaza has more child amputees than anywhere else in the world. Many of them will never be able to run, jump or play in the same way again. I am running for them.
Through their Emergency Fund, MSF is able to respond swiftly and effectively to ensure that urgent medical aid reaches those who need it most, when they need it most. MSF teams have been on the ground in Gaza, tirelessly providing lifesaving medical care, including surgical care, wound and burn treatment, postpartum care, physiotherapy, mental health support, vaccinations, and outpatient consultations. For Gaza's children, MSF's work is helping them come to terms with their life-altering injuries, through both reconstructive healthcare and the much needed psychological support. MSF's campaign is also supporting Lebanon, which is very close to my heart.
The reality is stark: without the support of the Emergency Fund, MSF's ability to act immediately in the face of emergencies would not be possible. Any donation you are able to give would go a long way and be so appreciated.
Thank you for your support.
Wishing you all the best for 2025,
