For the past 10 years, I've supported Surge, to help them bring safe water around the world. This week, I'll be in a remote, rural part of Uganda to witness firsthand the incredibe impact. The water crisis is dire and together with each of you, we can provide an entire community with safe water access.
Our Goal: 50,000
Together, we will drill a new water well (AED 37,000). Additional funds raised will rehabilitate a broken well (AED 11,000) in another community and go towards providing children in Angaro village with basic needs like shoes and clothes.
The Issue — Current Situation
Angaro village located in Kalaki, Uganda is home to 1,832 people — but has no safe water. They rely on contaminated springs that are often filled with debris. Animals graze there making them unsafe for use. Additionally, most of the villagers, especially the children, do not have proper clothes and lack shoes.
Women and children walk long distances to collect water from this contaminated spring
Children often fall sick from drinking this water — leading to missed school & opportunity
With unsafe water like this — entire communities are trapped in a cycle of poverty.
The Solution: A New Water Well for 1,832 from Angaro Community
With your help, we will drill a deep well for Angaro. With this new well, over 1,800 people will gain access to safe water close to home. This means an entire community will have chance at improved education, health, income and overall well-being for generations to come!
About Kalaki
Kalaki Districts in Eastern Uganda, is home to over 100,000 people, often self-described as a "forgotten" land. Heavily contaminated lake water and unprotected springs are the main drinking water sources. Additionally, in this district 80% live below the poverty line, 11% are orphans and vulnerable children, and 7% are living as HIV positive. While over 70% of the population depends on agriculture for their livelihoods, hunger is pervasive.
