The Holy month of Ramadan is upon us, a time for fasting and for families to gather over shared meals and devotion;

This Ramadan would have been Zouhair’s first commitment to the fasting and praying during the holy month. Yet, this will not be possible since he was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

Only 8 years old, Zouhair’s body is too weak to endure the fast. He watched his siblings and friends eagerly prepare for Suhoor, their faces alight with eagerness. His body weak from treatment makes taking a sip of water a challenge, let alone fasting for a full day. He yearned to join the pre-dawn Suhoor meals, the laughter echoing through the house, the shared prayers and the bonding it entails.

Zouhair found comfort in reciting the Quran, the shared stories of strength from fellow patients, and the unwavering support of his family. He dreamt of the day his treatment would be over, of joining the Eid celebrations.

أقبل شهر رمضان الكريم، شهر الصيام والطاعة، وجمعة العائلة على طاولة السحور والإفطار.

كاد أن يكون رمضان هذه السنة هو أول مرة يلتزم بها زهير بالصوم والصلاة خلال الشهر الكريم. ولكن لن يكون هذا ممكناً بسبب تشخيصه مؤخراً بسرطان الدم (ALL).

لن يقوى جسد زهير البالغ من العمر ثمان سنوات فقط على تحمّل الصيام. كان يراقب إخوانه وأصدقاءه يتجهزون للسحور، والحماس ظاهر على وجوههم.

أجهد العلاج جسد زهير، حتى أصبح شرب الماء مهمّة صعبة عليه، فكيف إذاً صيام يومٍ بأكمله؟

إن مشاركة عائلته وجبة السحور، وأصداء الضحكات، والصلاة جماعة والدعاء سوياً، هو أكثر ما كان يتوق إليه زهير.

وجد زهير الراحة في آيات القرآن الكريم، والقصص التي يتشاركها المرضى الأقوياء، والدعم اللامتناهي من عائلته، وكان يحلم باليوم الذي ينتهي فيه علاجه، ليشارك أهله وأصحابه احتفالات العيد.

About the Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon

Inaugurated in 2002, the Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL) is a regional reference center pioneering in providing access to treatment for kids with cancer, at no cost to their parents and with complete dependency on donations.

Till date, CCCL has supported in the treatment of more than 5,000 children with cancer and offered more than 6,000 medical consultations to patients, with complete dependency on donations. The cost of treatment of one child couldrange anywhere from 150,000 – 750,000 AED.

نبذة عن مركز سرطان الأطفال في لبنان

منذ افتتاحه عام 2002، وبفضل دعم الخيرين، ساهم مركز سرطان الأطفال في لبنان بتقديم الدعم والعلاج لأكثر من 5،000 طفل من كافة دول المنطقة وباعتماد كلي على التبرعات، بحيث تصل ميزانيته السنوية إلى الخمسة عشر مليون دولار. يهتمّ المركز بعلاج الأطفال دون سنّ الـ 18 سنة حيث يصل معدل نسبة الشفاء إلى ثمانين بالمئة.

تبلغ كلفة علاج كل طفل ما بين 150،000 و 750،000 درهم إماراتي.
