Founded in 1990 as a Child Rights Organization, Stairway Foundation, Inc. (SFI) has developed a multi-facetted approach to address abuse and neglect of children over more than three (3) decades. The organization was established as an alternative strategy to meet the needs of neglected and abused children, particularly the most endangered, street children, such as beggars, drug addicts, sexually exploited children, and children with serious health problems. The beautiful and natural surroundings of Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, became home to the organization.
Family Home Program (FHP) offers temporary shelter, creative therapies, education, and skills building, and thorough case management to street children from the community, nearby provinces, and Metro Manila. Stairway serves as a home for children who used to live on the streets. They come with an abundance of health problems, familial problems, drug problems, are in conflict with the law, and have been victims of physical and/or sexual abuse. While at Stairway’s Family Home, the children are engaged in non-formal education, psychosocial interventions, creative therapy, livelihood skills training, sports, and recreation. On a yearly basis, the program hosts 15-20 children.
