My Experience at Indus
My first visit to Indus Hospital was in 2019, when I visited the Paediatric Oncology ward at the hospital in Karachi. This moving experience resonated with me and left me wanting to learn more, so in December, 2021, I again visited as an Indus Youth Volunteer to learn more about the organisation. It was touching to see that the staff did not only consider the treatment of patients, but also their mental wellbeing. The employees of the hospital put an extensive amount of effort into making their patients' experience more endurable. This made me think of how I can contribute to this great cause, and along came the Indus Yaqeen programme which I am excited to participate actively in.
During my visit in 2021, I also met with an 8-year-old boy named Hussnain. He had lost his mother and his leg in a motorbike accident a few years prior. He was an energetic, exuberant boy, but the incident had severely affected him. His father had said that he would be in a constant state of sadness and was unable to do simple things which we take for granted, like playing with his friends. They had tried to get him prosthetics from other hospitals, but they were always uncomfortable, fragile and not very affordable. Once they heard about Indus, they decided to give it a try and the prosthetic they were given was perfect for Hussnain AND free of cost. When I met Hussnain, he was not the dejected boy his father had said he once was- here was a boy full of joy, running around and climbing trees; and all thanks to Indus.
This is just one of the many heart-warming stories of lives being saved by Indus.
