As it stands, Pakistan is facing an education crisis. Over 22.8 million children of school going age are out of school, where 77% of these children are between the ages of 10 and 16. This is the second largest out of school population in the world.
This education crisis can be explained by numerous reasons; large distances and long travel times to commute to school, education which is too expensive for families to sustain, the negligence of numerous teachers to their students - often not coming in to teach at school, a poor quality of education provided to children and heaps of more reasons.
The Citizens Foundation (TCF) is a professionally managed, not-for profit organisation which aims to bring about a positive social change through education. TCF builds and operates purpose-built primary and secondary schools in the heart of urban slums and rural areas across Pakistan, ensuring that girls make up nearly 50% of its overall student strength.
As Baghbaan ambassadors, my sister, Shanzay Shaikh, and I, Zayan Shaikh, along with many other fellow ambassadors, aim to raise money to help contribute to the vision of making TCF a household name so no child is left behind.
To help raise awareness for TCF's fight for education, we will run 2 kilometers for every 500 dirhams raised.
