7 EMIRATES CHALLENGE
Guinness World Record attempt to cross the UAE by foot in under 7 days
In aid of Soft Power Education
In January 2021, UAE resident Sean Burgess will embark on a 700km journey by foot from one side of the UAE to the other. The route will take him from Al Ghuwaifat on the Saudi Arabian border to finish on the Fujairah coast, passing through each of the 7 emirates on the way.
Running and walking for up to 20 hours a day, if Sean can finish in under 7 days then he will be the first person to claim the Guinness World Record for the ‘Fastest crossing of the United Arab Emirates on foot’.
As well as a personal challenge and record attempt, Sean will use this opportunity to raise money for Soft Power Education.
About the Charity
Soft Power Education (SPE) is a registered UK charity and Ugandan NGO whose mission is to ‘Improve the quality of life through education’. Since 1999 they have been working in the Jinja District of Uganda, supporting the local community with education, infrastructure and development projects.
Sean first became interested in SPE because of their Special Needs Program, which supports children with learning disabilities and helps them realise their individual potential.
The monies raised by the challenge will help renovate Nkondo Primary School where 605 pupils attend school. This renovation will ensure that the children are learning in a safe and inspiring environment, and support the incredible work this charity does in Uganda.
Please give generously in support of this great cause as all funds, whatever the amount, are much needed and greatly appreciated.
Fundraising in the UAE
This challenge is held in association with local charity Gulf For Good, whose purpose is to change the lives of underprivileged children around the world.
The Charity Challenge is approved by the Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department, Licence No. 3597. The breakdown of how donations are distributed are as follows:
