Art Therapy for children's wellbeing - Training for school teachers in Bangalore, India

Story

The Red Pencil (International) is an international humanitarian organization that brings the healing power of creative arts therapy to children, adults, families and communities who have been through overwhelming life circumstances for wh they may have no words. At The Red Pencil, we are dedicated to the resilience and long term recovery of the most vulnerable from all walks of life, to allow them to grow and become healthy and happy human beings for the world of tomorrow.

The Red Pencil is preparing an Arts-Based Capacity building and Training (ACBT) programme for school teachers in Bangalore, India, who provide education to underprivileged children. The programme will be implemented in collaboration with Parikrma Humanity Foundation, which runs 4 schools in Bangalore. This collaboration follows a first one that took place in 2021, when The Red Pencil trained 68 teachers in the use of art media in the classroom to improve children's wellbeing during the Covid pandemic.

This new training will enable 30 more teachers and school psychosocial workers to learn how to use art media in the classroom to promote children's mental health and emotional wellbeing. It will also equip them with knowledge and practice of art-based tools for self-care.

Your donation will help us to*:

  • Provide teachers and school workers with a comprehensive 10-week training course, including he necessary artistic  material. The training will be delivered by credentialed art therapists under the guidance of a credentialed art therapy supervisor.
  • Provide the trainees with 10-hour coaching sessions to consolidate and apply in the classroom the skills and competencies acquired during the training.
* The project overall estimated budget is 145.000 AED

By building the capacity of teachers and psychosocial school workers, it will be hundreds of children that will benefit from a school environment that fosters psychological and emotional wellbeing. The consequences of this programme on children allows them to learn better and faster at schools, and to bring home a more peaceful way of interacting with parents and siblings in families who are already vulnerable due to economic and social circumstances.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for helping us to bring the benefits of art therapy to those who need it most. It would mean even more to us if you could kindly forward this fundraising page to your family, friends, loved ones and encourage them to share it with as many people as possible.
