WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
Anyone who knows me, knows I love to travel — yet my next trip is a special one. From August 17-24, I’m visiting Kisoro, Uganda, to volunteer at the Ineza Children’s Centre. As a proud dad (Hi Kiki!) and son of a teacher (Hi mum!), I appreciate the importance of kids having a safe and comfortable place to learn and grow. I’ve already paid for my trip and all its associated costs, but now I'm aiming to raise a further Dh5000 (£1050) before mid-September to help furnish a school, tile classrooms, and purchase a playground.
I appreciate there are literally thousands of fundraisers out there, all deserving of your donations and likely all with stronger personal ties than a school in a place you’ve probably never visited. That’s why I’m not going to try to convince you. All I will say is, if you can spare anything at all (genuinely anything from Dh1 and upwards), it’ll surely be appreciated by the Centre’s many underprivileged children.
The project is supported by not-for-profit Gulf For Good as well as Thrift For Good, the Dubai-based pre-loved clothes store where Amanda volunteers (that’s how I heard about it). On that note, if you give Thrift a follow on Instagram, you might also see me as despite my aversion to social media, I plan to share the occasional photo/video from the trip...
Thank you. Or as they say in Uganda: “Webale nyo!”
