In advance of the Simmons & Simmons staff Iftar, all attendees were encouraged to fast during daylight hours to raise money for charity, experience the challenges of fasting and enjoy a more authentic iftar experience. The money that each individual would have spent on food that day is instead donated to Doctors Without Borders.
For over 15 years and counting, Médecins Sans Frontiéres/Doctors Without Borders (MSF)’s Reconstructive Surgery Programme (RSP) in Amman, Jordan, has helped heal the bodies and minds of war-wounded patients. With a high level of surgical expertise, extensive facilities, and a holistic approach to care, the hospital provides a base for MSF to treat patients from the region with complicated injuries, who do not have adequate access to treatment in their own countries.
The eight-story hospital has 148 beds, an operating theater with three surgery rooms, physiotherapy and psychosocial departments, a microbiology and 3D printing lab, and a new social and recreational space. In addition to orthopedic, maxillofacial and plastic surgery, the RSP provides a safe space to recover (with mental healthcare and schooling), for adults and children who have faced far too much violence. To the best of our capabilities, we have focused on making the hospital a second home for our patients.
For each week of Ramadan, we will release a short episode featuring a story about the hospital, whether about a patient, a staff member, or a particular area of expertise the RSP offers. These stories can be hard at times to listen to or read about, but they are also inspiring and allow the resilience of our patients to shine through.
This hospital and the care it provides relies on the generosity and kindness of supporters like you. Please consider making a gift today to support our hospital in Amman so that we can continue to treat those who are victims of the conflicts nearby.
