The Hour Loom
Time is the one thing we all share. For millions of women and girls, too much of it is spent walking for water. That's time taken from school, work and rest. The Hour Loom turns that time into something you can see.
A circular loom that becomes a working clock, it brings together three weaves from where Surge works: Indonesian ikat at the core, Haitian basket weave as the hour track and Ugandan coiled weaving around the edge.
Threads replace numbers. Woven fragments replace the traditional face. The hands move across a surface made from many connected parts.
Parts of the loom are left deliberately empty. They are open hours, and they only get finished when people sit down and weave them in.
