“Youssef” and the Wish for Tomorrow
While the world slowly moves on after Ramadan, many families are still living through uncertainty, fear, and displacement.
But inside a hospital room, 9-year-old Youssef is facing something even more urgent.
Youssef is battling leukemia.
During Ramadan, instead of being surrounded by family, warmth, and prayer, Youssef spent his days between treatments and quiet moments by the window—holding on to hope.
With colored pencils in his hands, he draws what he misses most: his home… his family… a sky filled with stars instead of fear.
Sometimes, he pauses and whispers:
“I just want to go back home.”
Suddenly, Youssef finds himself facing two wars: the war in Lebanon… and his own war against cancer. And while the world waits for war to end… cancer does not wait.
The children are trying to dodge death not once, but twice, not only escaping bullets and missiles, but also fighting cancer in the midst of war, displacement, fear, and destruction.
Every single day without treatment puts a child’s life at risk.
