The International Islamic Youth League IIYL is one of the key leading International Non-Governmental, humanitarian and development organizations providing minimum standards of protection and assistance to refugees, returnees and internally displaced persons in sectors of water and sanitation, health care delivery, shelter, food aid, community services development and educational support etc. in the repatriation of refugees/returnees, resettlement, reconstruction in their places of origin, emergency relief assistance and care and maintenance of refugees in camps.
Furthermore, the organization is registered with the line Ministries of the Sierra Leone Government Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs, the Ministry Health and Sanitation and the Ministry of Energy and Power, the Ministry of Inter Affairs of the Republic of Mali and its member of Sierra Leone Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (SLANGO) and Forum of international NGOs in Mali Notwithstanding this fact, the organization has been implemented programmes for the National Commission for Social Action (NaSCA) of the Sierra Leone Government, and had MOU and sub-agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), United Nation World Food Programme (WFP), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation (FAO) and the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society, Malian Red Cross Society in respective areas of humanitarian and development activities in refugee camps and displaced camps in Mali.
Despite activities with the UN organizations, it works in partnership with other humanitarian organizations such as United Arab Emirates Red Crescent Society, Islamic Relief Centre of Trinidad and Tobacco, and Zakat Foundation of America, to spread of charity support to primary health care delivery Services, water and sanitation education, community development services, orphans care and destitute populations in Sierra Leone.
The International Islamic Youth League Sierra Leone has since 1991 been actively involved in assisting war affected persons in Sierra Leone and its neighbouring countries (Guinea Conakry, Guinea Bissau and Senegal) and in supporting development oriented approaches in the sectors of orphans care, education, water and sanitation, primary health care delivery services, agricultural food security, and distribution of relief food and non- food items to refugees returnees and internally displaced persons.
